Exquisite Wedding Bouquets: Crafting the Floral Heart of Your Big Day

Everyone knows that your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life. It is a day defined by personal touches, shared promises, and the aesthetic beauty that brings a venue to life. At Ivy Floral Events, I feel truly honoured that I get to be a small part of each couple’s amazing day.

A bridal bouquet is more than just a floral arrangement; it is the most intimate accessory a bride will wear. It sits at the centre of your photographs and carries the fragrance that will, for years to come, trigger the memories of the moment you said “I do.” Because every wedding style is different, I pride myself on providing bespoke flowers to suit ANY vision—from the wild and whimsical to the polished and prestigious.

Defining Your Wedding Floral Style

The world of floristry is vast, and choosing a direction can often feel overwhelming. Most couples I meet have an abundance of pictures, each with a different reason why they love them. My job is to help guide you through these inspirations so that you end up with the most amazing bouquet of your dreams.

1. The Relaxed ‘Just Picked’ & Boho Aesthetic

For the couple planning a barn wedding, a meadow ceremony, or a celebration with a free-spirited heart, the “just picked” style is a perfect match.

  • The Look: These bouquets are intentionally asymmetrical and “airy.” They avoid the stiff, compact structure of traditional bouquets, allowing the flowers to move naturally as you walk down the aisle.

  • Key Blooms: We use a mix of delicate “filler” flowers like Queen Anne’s Lace, Astrantia, and Waxflower, paired with focal stems like Cosmos or Scabiosa.

  • The Foliage: Wispy greens like Eucalyptus or even dried grasses help give that “gathered from the field” feel.

2. Vintage Romance

Vintage style is timeless, often drawing inspiration from the Victorian or Edwardian eras. It’s a style that feels soft, nostalgic, and incredibly romantic.

  • The Look: A muted colour palette is essential here—think dusty pinks, antique creams, and soft mauves. The shape is usually a medium-sized round posy or a soft “teardrop” shape.

  • Key Blooms: The David Austin Rose is the queen of vintage weddings, known for its high petal count and intoxicating scent. We often pair these with spray roses and textured foliage like Dusty Miller (Senecio).

3. Contemporary & Modern Minimalist

Modern weddings often take place in industrial spaces, art galleries, or chic city hotels. The flowers need to reflect this clean, sophisticated environment.

  • The Look: Modern floristry is about “less is more.” We focus on strong lines, bold shapes, and often a monochromatic colour palette.

  • Key Blooms: Calla Lilies, Anthuriums, and Orchids are the go-to choices for a contemporary look. These flowers have a natural “sculptural” quality that looks stunning against a minimalist gown.

4. Woodland & Botanical Wildness

If you are getting married under a canopy of trees or in a glass-walled orangery, a botanical theme brings the beauty of the outdoors inside.

  • The Look: This style is very green-heavy. It’s about texture rather than just colour. We look for “moody” tones and interesting natural elements.

  • Key Blooms: While we still use traditional flowers, we accent them with ferns, moss, seed pods, berries, and even succulents. It’s a tactile, earthy style that feels grounded and magical.

5. Classical & Timeless Elegance

For the traditionalist, a classical bouquet never goes out of style. It is the height of bridal sophistication and works perfectly with a formal ballroom or church setting.

  • The Look: Usually a symmetrical, compact “posy” or a dramatic “shower” (cascade) bouquet. The focus is on luxury and perfection.

  • Key Blooms: Peonies are the gold standard for classical weddings (available in late spring/early summer), along with Hydrangeas and premium long-stemmed Roses.

The Art of the Bridesmaids' Bouquet

While the bridal bouquet is the star of the show, the bridesmaids’ flowers play a crucial supporting role. The norm is to have a smaller, simpler version of the bridal bouquet so they all complement each other beautifully. This creates a visual thread that ties the whole bridal party together in your photographs.

However, there are different options depending on the style you have in mind. Some brides choose to have the bridesmaids carry slightly different flowers to make the bride’s bouquet stand out more, or perhaps a different colour within the same palette. Other modern options include:

  • Floral Hoops: A whimsical alternative that works beautifully for younger bridesmaids or boho themes.

  • Wrist Corsages: Ideal for a contemporary look or for bridesmaids who need their hands free to help with the bride’s train!

  • Single-Stem Statements: A single, high-quality bloom (like a Protea or a large Peony) can look incredibly striking and chic.

Seasonal Intelligence: Why It Matters

A major part of my role as your florist is advising on seasonality. In the UK, our floral landscape changes dramatically every few months. Choosing seasonal blooms doesn’t just ensure the best quality and scent; it also makes your wedding feel “in tune” with the time of year.

  • Spring: The season of scent. Think Lilies of the Valley, Sweet Peas, and Tulips.

  • Summer: The season of abundance. Sunflowers, Dahlias, and Zinnias offer vibrant pops of colour.

  • Autumn: The season of texture. We use turning leaves, berries, and rich, jewel-toned Dahlias.

  • Winter: The season of elegance. Anemones with their dark centres, Hellebores, and rich evergreens create a sophisticated, winter-wonderland feel.

My Process: From Inspiration to Aisle

I know that most brides come to me feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choice. My process is designed to take that stress away:

  • The Consultation: We talk through your ideas, your dress, your venue, and your “must-have” colours.

  • The Curation: I take your Pinterest boards and folders of images and distil them into a cohesive floral plan that works with your budget and the season.

  • The Creation: On the morning of your wedding, I personally select the freshest stems, conditioning them so they look perfect from the first photo to the last dance.

At Ivy Floral Events, I don’t just “provide flowers.” I create the atmosphere for your most important day. Whether you want a bouquet that is wild and free or structured and sophisticated, I am here to ensure that when you walk down the aisle, you are holding something truly extraordinary.
